Most of us don’t realize what the study of sound has produced in terms of scientific breakthrough, and more to the point here, in terms of art.
Cymatics is the study of visible sound. What that actually means is that every sound produced by anything has a certain shape, configuration, or movement of a material object (semi-solid, liquid, electric, gaseous). This phenomenon has become so widespread, yet under-acknowledged.
Some artists use sound to paint, and it turns out just beautiful, others just experiment and go with the flow…
This is done either with sand, paint, oil, water, or basically anything that can move freely on a surface.
One artist/musician was so inspired that he wrote a song just for these effects, and fittingly named it “cymatics”
Nigel stanford (website) shows how hypnotic music is, not just as sound, but as sight. His work really explains itself through every beat, and if you like to hear more from him, listen to his album which is a subtle mix of new age with electronic music. Such a mix is rare to find soothing and energy boosting at the same time, but Nigel’s creations come real close.
